Policy and Evidence Centres

We are a founding partner in Insights North East (INE), host the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre and are home to two NIHR Policy Research Units.

Insights North East

Established in 2021, INE is an exciting new partnership. It brings together Newcastle’s two universities and four of the region’s public bodies.

INE will forge links between academics and policymakers. In doing so, it will address community needs in the region. It will close the gap between research and policy design and implementation.

Delivering better outcomes to benefit the region's people, economy and environment, INE will focus on:

  • improving health and wellbeing
  • a just transition to net zero
  • delivering inclusive growth

With the Royal Society of Arts, we host the Northern Hub of the Creative Industries Policy and Evidence Centre. It provides independent research and policy recommendations for the UK's creative industries.

Our Population Health Sciences Institute in the Faculty of Medical Sciences is home to two NIHR PRUs.

The NIHR Policy Research Unit (PRU) in Behavioural Science informs government policy on health, preventing ill-health and health systems.

The NIHR Older People and Frailty PRU answers questions about the lives of older people to help inform government policies.
